If you watched Extreme Makeover: Home Edition last night, Sunday February 11, 2007, you saw them build a home for a hero from September 11, 2001.  It was a very moving story about what he did to help find victims buried in the debris pile.

The flag that Ed started to build is really cool.  To make a ‘flying’ flag out of wood looked really great.  Like he said in the show, tool guards are there for a reason.  Don’t remove them.

I believe that another factor that led to his injury is that he was very tired when the injury occurred.  Now, most of us are not under this kind of time pressure when we are building our projects.  The lessons that I have taken from the show are:

I have to admit that I have removed the table saw guard on my Shop Smith (on loan) and Ryobi BT-3000 table saws.  However, today I have decided that I will be reinstalling them before I use the table saw again.
